Power conversion is Transtechnik's core competence. Whether mobile or stationary, we are specialized in sophisticated customized solutions. Best example are the AC/DC converters for CERN. The world's largest particle accelerator is being constructed in the vicinity of Geneva, Switzerland. Transtechnik delivers high-precision current sources type ±600 A / ±40 V, 13 kA / 18 V, and 20,5 kA / 18 V. The converters supply superconducting magnets for the particle accelerator and experiments of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, plays a decisive role in the development of future technologies and therefore is an important test facility for new industrial products. All suppliers are subject to a comprehensive qualification process, Transtechnik was the only company who met the stringent requirements for the 13 kA system. We are proud that Transtechnik's expertise is also in demand in a project of this kind. The outstanding technical know-how and commitment of the Transtechnik employees was honoured with the “Golden Hadron Award”, which is given exclusively by CERN to very few contractors for exploring and implementing improvements above their contractual obligations. The main underground ring of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) has a circumference of 27 km. The Transtechnik power supply for the CERN atlas experiment works as a current source from zero to 20.5 kA with an output voltage up to 18 V. |
